CAT'S EYE GEMSTONE
A Cat's eye like effect produced by band-like inclusion in the middle of this gemstone and yellow green cloudy appearance provides it the name that is actually very startling. The dealer is not at all involved in cat's organs as the name suggests and actually is taking about chrysoberyl stone that in turn has nothing to do with beryls.
Chrysoberyls are a separate family altogether and include certain golden coloured gemstones having different kinds of additional hues. So, the overall appearance looks yellowish green with bright middle band that makes it look like a cat's eye. When somebody says cat's eye alone, it simply refers to chrysoberyl.
Cat's eye is also found in other gemstones but there it should be preceded by the name of the parent stone, for example agate cat's eye. This gemstone is quite popular in Indian Vedic astrology and used to symbolize ketu (descending node of moon). It is most commonly called as 'lehsunia' and is said to mitigate the ill-effects of ketu on the life of an individual.
Cat's eye is very much liked in cabochon style and finds its use in making of pendants, rings and small jewellery items like stud earrings or single stone bracelets. This gemstone is of great importance in astrological healing and brings lot of luck and happiness to the wearer.
Many gems' species have cat's eye, of these tourmaline, quartz and spinel are very much talked about. The list is just meaningless without the mention of emerald cat's eye which is a real rarity and priced really high. The collectors do not mind paying extra for it, either.
Cat's eye does find very significant place in gemstones' history as this was gifted by third son of Queen Victoria, British Duke of Connaught, to Princess of Prussia as engagement ring. Smithsonian gem's collection has one of the largest cat's eye to date. This gemstone sourced from Sri Lanka, named as Sri Lankan Maharani measures about 58-60 carats and displays magnificent quality totally unmatched.
Cat's eye displays typical combinations of colours such as green-yellow, yellow-green, brown-yellow etc. It is worth noticing that according to gemstone colouring scheme, the colour found in excess is mentioned first in the combination.
Cat's eye effect is attributed to the presence of inclusions. These inclusions can affect the transparency of crystals and shift them towards translucent side. Cabochon cut is most appropriate for displaying this effect vividly and therefore, it is used widely in making of cuff-links, brooches, rings, pendants and beads.
This gemstone is found of great use in curing skin infections, allergies and even cancer. This stone boosts the growth of business and is advised to people who want to be financially sound and in great demand in terms of business presence.
